Yesterday, we had a great talk by Steven Noels about NoSQL and Lilly (which isn’t his wife’s name, but the cool F/OSS NoSQL project he is currently working on: www.lilyproject.org).
During the evening, he mentioned the fairly new BigData User Group that he founded together with Wim, André and Daan. The group’s idea is to organise things around the Belgian community of Bigdata, NoSQL and Cloud enthusiasts.
And if you are interested, the BigData group will hold its first meeting Tue, July 05 2011, 6:30 PM, at IBBT Zuiderpoort Office Park, Gaston Crommenlaan 8 in Ghent. The entry is free.
More information can be found on the divers pages indicated hereafter:
PS. The meeting date is near, so be fast.

Our weather situation extrapolation based on the last two days indicates that tomorrow we have to expect blizzards, temperatures of -10 and mean wind speeds of 300 km/h. Moreover, no football match is announced, except for the Womens World Cup – but hey, we are geeks, right?
So all things considered, there is no real reason too not to join the last JUG session of this season, tomorrow, June 30, at 1830 in the centre of Brussels. The session concludes at 2130 at latest, but for the brave of you, we will continue after the session with hot chocolate, honey milk and sparkling mineral water.
The subject of the evening is NoSQL & friends, presented by a really cool guy (@stevenn) ! Entry is free, everybody is welcome and finally we have an MP3 player as give away.
Be there, have fun, meet Java people!
To conclude, the wisdom of the day: “A RAM disk is not an installation procedure!”
Happy Feet!
The BruJUG team
We would like to invite you to the last Brussels JUG session of this season. The evening will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2011 between 18:30 and 21:30, at the HU Brussels, 4nd floor, room 4107, Stormstraat 2 / 2, Rue d’Assaut.
Please note that we start at 18:30 and not at 19:00 like often before. The venue closes at 21:30, so we have enough time to enjoy a drink together after the conference. One MP3 player give-away awaits a lucky auditor.
This time, our guest is Steven Noels, which is one of the best-known NoSQL evangelists in our region. Beside his extended practical experience at Outerthought, he spoke at conferences like DEVOXX and at many Java User Groups in Europe.
More information can be found on our wiki:

Above we just spoke about the end of the JUG season 2010/2011. Yet, this is not entirely true. Though we do not plan regular sessions during the holiday period, we will organise a few special events for you. One will be the official introduction party of JAVA 7, organised in cooperation with the BeJUG and sponsored by Oracle. A second holiday event is in preparation as well. More details on all this later, so stay tuned :)
Give-away: 1 x MP3 player
