The BeScala – Belgium SCALA Enthusiasts – group (already present here), will have their second meet-up on September 13th, 19:00 at the N-SIDE office (Rue Granbonpré, 11, Louvain-la-Neuve, www.n-side.eu).
There is a limited set of places available (maximum 25 people), so please make sure to subscribe if you want to join. If for any reason you could not attend, please cancel your registration so they can invite people from the waiting list.
For this time, the group would like to organize Lightning talks. You are invited to speak about your SCALA passion and present your experiences or projects. The talks will be 5 minutes in length each.
We would also like to organize a discussion panel about the SCALA adoption in Belgium. If you have ideas, plans/strategies or experience about introducing SCALA in your company, the group is very interested to hear your story. ;-)
Finally yet importantly, the BeScala group thanks the N-SIDE management for supporting the initiative.

By Renato Guerra Cavalcanti:
Last Wednesday (July 13th, 2011), we had our first Belgium Scala Meetup (cf. announcement on BruJUG). It was great to meet such a number of Scala enthusiasts willing to start a small, but vibrant community around Scala and push its adoption here in Belgium.
Some nice ideas have pop-up from this first meetup and some action points were already taken:
- We build a website to publish our activities, pictures, host blogs related to Scala, etc. The website will be hosted at www.bescala.org.
- We have now a group on LinkedIn called BeScala. Actually it’s a subgroup of the Scala Enthusiasts group. Everybody is welcome to join.
- A Google Group at http://groups.google.com/group/bescala has also been made. Everybody is welcome to join as well. :-)
- We created a twitter account @be_scala. Of course, everybody is invited to follow! :-)
Our first pictures are available on Picasa.
Most important, we are already planing a second meetup right after the holiday period (probably second half of August). There are also some companies willing to host the next meetup. Having a meetup inside a company venue will give us a less noisy environment to talk and network (certainly better than in a pub) and we could combine it with presentations. To be continued…
Dear all,
A couple of Scala Enthusiasts here in Belgium have been talking and we would like to organize a Belgium Scala Meet-Up. The initial idea is to meet on a pub somewhere, have a drink and exchange some ideas and experiences.
The first Belgian Scala Meetup will on July 13th in Brussels, Café De Monk,42 Sint-Katelijnestraat.
We made a registration page on Fikket: http://6hb2supq.fikket.be/event/belgian-scala-meetup. Please, register there so we can have an idea of how many we are.
Let us know if you are interested in joining us.
Renato, Tim & Louis
We would like to invite you to our last JUG session of the year 2010. Unfortunately we had to postpone John’s Hibernate/JPA session, but we are proud to propose a worthy replacement:
Luc Duponcheel, professional Java trainer and founder of ImagineJ, presents an introduction into the SCALA programming language.

We meet again at the ULB Plaine campus, but this time in auditorium FORUM G (not F). Registrations are open via JUGEvents, as usual…

We hope to see many of you!
